Interest Income

Interest income is a term that companies use to show interest that is earned on cash that is temporarily held via certificates of deposit (CDs), savings accounts and other investments. Interest is earned in addition to the initial cash investment and is therefore reported separately. Interest income is commonly reported to the IRS/SSA via IRS 1099 INT Form.

Recipients of 1099-INT Forms

When you receive a IRS 1099 INT form you are required to file it as part of your income tax returns for the tax year referenced. Form 1099-INT is provided to recipients of interest income and must be filed by both the payer and payee with the IRS/SSA. The payer files Form 1099-INT directly with the IRS/SSA, provides the 1099-INT form to the payee who is then required to report the income personally.
